Student of The Month

Each student that will be featured on this page will have to show commitment to the instrument and especially prove to me the results from regular practicing. Every month I will keep a close eye on how everybody is progressing. Attitude to practice and achievement through exams will be counted. Students who have not chosen the exam course will be considered on reading skills, improvisation and attitude to the drum kit and their lessons.

Being a drum teacher is greatly rewarding, especially when a student finally reaches his/her goals. Although most of my students are under the age of 18, I always encourage adults to experience what playing the drum kit is like. Angie Coles is one such student and has progressed to a confident player over the last twelve months.

Her drumming experience started with learning a basic rhythmic pattern using the hi hat, bass and snare drum. Using this knowledge, she quickly learnt that adding beats on different counts created other exciting rhythms she recognised from her dance classes. Twelve months on, she is already confident at playing The Bolero and Cha Cha. Not only have the influences from her dance classes increased her awareness, she also regularly listens to all types of music on a day-to-day basis.

This month I have made her student of the month because of the huge progress she has made in such a short time frame.

Congratulations Angie, you've done yourself proud.
