Kettering Drum Camp
Sunday 29th & Monday 30th May 2016
After the success of our first drum camp last December featuring Rob Hirons & Fanny Themlin, I am happy to announce that I have chosen to extend the experience this May to a two day event. This event will be taking place on the 29th & 30th May at ISM Academy, Kettering and feature some of my favourite educators. If you have ever had an interest in playing drums or currently have lessons, I urge you to attend this two-day event. Each day will feature a clinic performance from three drummers (Including myself) with the option of a private lesson with the educator of your choice.
The line up
MASSIMO RUSSO is a young drummer and percussionist. He graduated with honours at the Conservatory “F.Torrefranca” of Vibo Valentia. A very talented musician, drummer, teacher and clinician; he conducted several seminars in Italy, France, Germany and England collaborating with great word-class musicians as Daniel Schmitt and Dom Famularo. (L.) Massimo’s talent lays in his natural versatility, in his ability in understanding, without hesitations, the specific sound in the wide range of musical styles, even thanks to an excellent hands technique. COLLABORATIONS with Dom Famularo, a successful internationally renowned artist (awarded more than once as the best drummer teacher and clinician in the world) started in 2010 when Massimo went to the U.S.A. to attend drum lessons with him. From that moment onwards Dom Famularo saw in Massimo the ideal teacher to create the only Italian “Wizdom Drumshed School”.
Jonathan is an independent drummer based in the East Midlands. He is currently involved in a number of projects, including his own Jonathan Curtis Eclectic Band. Jonathan is an exponent of the art form of drumming, musical expression, and the ideal of technical perfection. Through his practice, teaching and performance, Jonathan hopes to contribute in some small way to the advancement of the art of drumming. Jonathan began drumming at the age of eleven, joining his secondary school orchestra and attending percussion lessons. Since then, he has studied with various tutors and professionals across the UK and Australia, played with many bands and projects, and recorded in the studio.
Growing up on heavy metal from the likes of Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, throughout his teens Jonathan progressed onto the more extreme forms of death and black Metal. The drummers of these bands (for example, George Kollias of Nile, Richard Christy of Death, Horgh of Immortal), pushed the boundaries of what was physically possible with a pair of sticks and a double bass pedal. This influenced Jonathan’s playing, causing him to explore the more extreme side of drumming. This helped form his technique based relaxation and proper form. Since then, his musical tastes have matured, incorporating strong bebop influences from the likes of Tony Williams, Stan Levey and Jack DeJohnette. These pioneers of the bop style lead to a progression into musical playing, time playing and structured soloing, as well as an undeniable focus on swing.
