Drum Clinic featuring
Rob Hirons, Fanny Themlin & Glenn Hallam
Thursday 17th December 2015
I am proud to announce another fantastic drum clinic featuring some of the worlds best talent in drumming. Over the past few years we have had the pleasure of introducing the likes of Paul Hose, Sergio Bellotti and Massimo Russo. This clinic will once again take you on a journey of drumming beyond what you deem as being possible.
Once again I am proud to be working with two fantastic drummers that will appear at this event, Rob Hirons & Fanny Themlin
Rob excels in many styles of music, including Rock, Pop, Funk, Jazz, RnB amongst others. His vast playing experience includes performances, tours and albums with St Christopher, The Rob Donnelly Band, Watcha Clan, Rona Hartner, Jean Michel Kajdan, Therese Themlin, and Hofmann Family Blues Experience to name but a few. As well as these projects, Rob has recently joined rock / pop band The Page, one of the busiest gigging bands in the region. Never one to slow down, Rob has also recently founded his own powerful jazz fusion trio Isnard – Tomi – Hirons who recently released their first album Incipit and who support the album with dates in the region and further afield. Isnard – Tomi – Hirons completed a successful tour in the UK during the summer of 2014.
A reputed drum clinician, Rob regularly travels to many different cities and countries to perform drum clinics in partnership with Natal Drums, Sabian Cymbals, Vic Firth Sticks and Evans Drumheads. He has performed alongside such drummers as Carmine Appice, Damien Schmitt, Mike Terrana, Dave Lombardo, George Kollias, Dirk Brand, Dom Famularo, Aquiles Preister, Pete Lockett, and John Favicchia. In late 2013 Rob gave a dynamic drum clinic performance at the prestigious Drummers Collective in New York City and also performed at many of the renowned Sam Ash retails stores on the East Coast.
As an active drum educator, Rob maintains an intense schedule as Course Director and teacher at the acclaimed music school MLC Academy Marseille, as well as coaching up and coming drummers in the specialised drum studio the Wizdom Drumshed designed with Global Drum Ambassador Dom Famularo.
Having a strong desire to share modern drum-set techniques with others, Rob wrote the drum tuition book Groove Facility. Distributed by Alfred Publishing, Groove Facility sells worldwide and has gained excellent reviews throughout the drumming community and press. To promote the techniques in Groove Facility, Rob acts as Teacher in Residence at many schools in France as well as travelling to schools in the UK and Italy, reaching even more upcoming students and fans of the drum set.
Fanny is a 22-year-old metal drummer from France. She started drumming at the young age of 12 and has played in several rock and metal bands since then. Her biggest achievement to date would be the excellent modern instrumental metal band called Defaced. Their first album called Dark Planets was released last year and is currently being toured all over France.
She has given classes in the UK with Massimo Russo and Paul Hose, as well as a masterclass tour in France last year with JB Perraudin & Rob Hirons. Fanny will amaze you with her seamless ability to produce blistering double pedal patterns and unbelievable independence.
She is currently studying with Rob Hirons in Marseille in order to pass a two year Level 6 Diploma, after having passed her Grade 8 with the ‘Distinction’. She has also studied with Dom Famularo who is one of her biggest inspirations.
A few words from Fanny herself…
“I’m inspired by many metal drummers, including Tomas Haake, Matt Halpern, Matt Garska, Dereck Roddy… For me, inspiration is everywhere, in every drummer I see, everyone has a story to tell. I think it’s important for women drummers to fight to be considered as drummers first, especially in the ‘male-dominated’ world of metal music!”
